China Eastern Airlines launch direct flights between Auckland and Hangzhou

Shanghai based China Eastern Airlines launched direct flights between Auckland and Hangzhou, China.

The new route brings China Eastern Airlines’ New Zealand capacity to it’s 2019 pre-covid levels. China Eastern Airlines started operations to Auckland in 2014.

China Eastern Airlines will operate four services a week; two direct from Hangzhou to Auckland, while the other two flights will visit Sydney back to Hangzhou. China Eastern Airlines will operate a wide-body A330-200 aircraft for the Auckland-Hangzhou and Auckland-Sydney-Hangzhou flight. Business travellers can expect free wifi, complimentary checked bags, in-flight entertainment, and meals. The new flight also increases capacity to the Auckland-Sydney travel route, adding 2% to the SYD-AKL seat capacity over the upcoming summer season (November 2023 – March 2024).

The new route will help meet the increasing demand for travel between China and New Zealand, appealing to the 280,000 Chinese migrants residing in New Zealand who want to reconnect with friends and family in China. opens a direct route for New Zealand travellers to visit Hangzhou, a bustling technological hub, UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular tourist destination. The new flight will also caters to travel preferences of Chinese visitors, who prioritise the convenience of familiar culinary offerings and language, particularly for combined trips to Australia and New Zealand.

Hangzhou is in Zhejiang province in China and is one of the most prominent business and tourist hubs with great international popularity. The most prominent tourist spot is the West Lake Cultural Landscape that has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Popular tourist sites include The Longjing tea fields along the Qiantang River, temples and pagodas.

The new flight route introduces competitive pricing and a promotional fare for the inaugural AKL-SYD and AKL-HGH flights, one way between AKL & SYD, starting at NZD$243.9 and one way between AKL & HGH, starting at $583.41.
