Hotel Review: Mercure Tokyo Ginza

As a seasoned traveller to Tokyo or on a first trip, you would know either way that when in Tokyo, stay close to where your business is. The superbly efficient Tokyo rail system is totally reliable, but travel takes time and effort. And so, on my recent trip to Tokyo I decided to do just that. Stay at a charming hotel that fit my business needs in the middle of the high-end lifestyle district of Ginza – Mercure Tokyo Hotel, Ginza.

Ginza district in Tokyo needs little introduction. It’s a precinct lined up with international and local fashion houses, top restaurants and coffee houses, museums, and art installations. With the likes of Kabuki-Za (principal theatre in Tokyo for Kabuki Drama) and the very intriguing Art Aquarium Museum where goldfish and art come together, Ginza is a locale not to be missed.

15 minutes by foot from Tokyo station, Mercure Tokyo Ginza is in the proximity of the CBD. Whether you’re on business or leisure, it’s a hotel that is probably the best connected through by Tokyo Metro Ginza line station and the rest of the Tokyo Rail network. If you’re travelling out of Tokyo, Shinkansen (Bullet trains) depart from Tokyo central station.

Art and modernity are an essence of Mercure Tokyo Ginza, and the contemporary feel with striking colour contrasts makes a bold statement. In Tokyo, space comes at a premium and so how you use the space makes all the difference. At Mercure Tokyo Ginza, space ergonomics played a key role as while space is constrained the use of it makes area feel spacious and welcoming.

The lobby is located on the second floor of the hotel which once again brings together a pleasant ensemble of architecture and design. The retro-contemporary design has a method to it’s madness and once again portrays bold individualism with bright lights and colours coupled with gold-plated brass fittings. Pleasant front-office staff checked me in, and the guest service representative was courteous enough to show the key areas of the hotel. After a long flight this was very welcoming gesture to the hotel.

I was staying at a Superior Twin room which was superbly appointed with a Simmons mattress on the twin beds and some of the top amenities. The large windows allowed for ample natural light making it a bright sunny street facing stay.

Spacious bathrooms with a bud tub and luxury amenities were readily available. The in-room wi-fi connection was superfast and efficient and so was the working desk with international charging and USB points for direct charging of phone and laptop. The super-soft and comfortable bed along with crisp cotton sheets made for a great night’s sleep.

Breakfast is served up in the hotel’s restaurant ‘Le Bistrot de l’Echanson’ which is at the lobby level. The buffet breakfast is a delicious spread of freshly baked danishes and pastries along with great coffee. Not to mention the amazing fresh fruit and juices to start your day! The buffet has an extensive spread of cooked international dishes like scrambled eggs, baked beans, and grilled potatoes. But what excited me the most is the tasteful local Japanese dishes that were on offer. That was the true highlight of the day and to taste the local chefs prepare the amazing Japanese dishes.

My trip to Tokyo was superb and thanks to my selection to stay at Mercure Tokyo, Ginza. It was a truly amazing experience to say the least. The service and the quality of the accommodation pleasantly exceeded my expectations and I won’t hesitate to be staying at Mercure Tokyo Ginza again.
