Uber moves deeper into premium ground transport with Blacklane acquisition
- March 31, 2026
Uber is set to strengthen its position in the premium mobility market after announcing an agreement to acquire global chauffeur service Blacklane, in a move that underscores growing demand for luxury and executive travel. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by the end of 2026.
The deal signals a sharper push by Uber into higher-yield travel segments, particularly as pre-booked services continue to gain traction. Uber said executive travel has become a fast-growing part of its business, with Uber Reserve emerging as one of the strongest growth areas within its mobility division. Founded in Berlin in 2011, Blacklane has built a strong presence in the global chauffeur market, operating in more than 500 cities across over 60 countries via its app and web-based booking platform. The company has positioned itself as a premium provider for airport transfers, intercity journeys and hourly chauffeur bookings, with a customer base that includes both corporate travellers and leisure guests.
For business travellers, the acquisition is notable because it brings together Uber’s vast global reach with Blacklane’s established chauffeur and hospitality-led service model. The move is likely to strengthen Uber’s appeal among executives seeking more consistent, pre-arranged and premium transport options, particularly for airport transfers and city-to-city travel. That is an inference based on the companies’ stated focus on executive travel and premium services.
