Qatar Airways Launches World’s First Starlink-Equipped Boeing 777, Transforming In-Flight Connectivity for Business Travellers
- October 24, 2024
Qatar Airways has launched the world’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 flight from Doha to London.
This innovative move positions the airline as a leader in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for in-flight connectivity, offering passengers ultra-high-speed, low-latency internet access powered by SpaceX’s Starlink, free from gate to gate. With the rollout of Starlink, Qatar Airways will equip 12 Boeing 777-300 aircraft with this advanced technology by the end of 2024, and the entire Boeing 777 fleet is expected to be upgraded by 2025—one year ahead of schedule. The Airbus A350 fleet will follow in summer 2025, ensuring a wider reach of this enhanced connectivity.
This breakthrough is particularly beneficial for business travellers, who will now be able to work seamlessly at 35,000 feet, thanks to Starlink’s reliable internet service. Whether conducting virtual meetings, responding to emails, or accessing cloud-based files, business passengers can maintain productivity throughout their journey without interruptions.
Qatar Airways’ Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, highlighted the significance of this upgrade for premium travellers, saying, “This milestone allows us to offer a transformative in-flight experience that caters to the evolving needs of our passengers, especially those travelling for business.”
Starlink’s low-latency internet will also enhance the in-flight experience for corporate travelers by supporting smooth video conferencing, uninterrupted file sharing, and access to business applications in real-time, enabling them to stay connected with their teams and clients around the globe. For Qatar Airways, the partnership with SpaceX sets a new standard for connectivity, combining the airline’s award-winning service with cutting-edge technology.
